Welcome to Elarton Point, a beautifully private property on magnificent Lake Rosseau. Elarton Point is located in the hub of the Muskoka Lakes, sitting on a point near the south end of the mouth of the Joe River on 1000 feet of lake frontage. The large lot size is unique for this central Muskoka region, making this property desirable for its privacy and spaciousness. Accessible by Hall’s Road, the property is located exactly halfway between Port Sandfield and Cleveland’s House (a popular resort with restaurant, water ski show and other attractions for cottagers). All conveniences, including LCBO, restaurants, food shopping etc. are available 8 minutes away in Port Carling. The pretty town of Rosseau is located just 15 minutes north.
The cottage, which replaced an original family cottage build in 1890, sits just ten feet from the water’s edge. There are four bedrooms in the main cottage, and a bunkie nestled on the hill, perfect for older children or guests! The cottage was designed to copy the footprint of the original cottage and maximizes lake views as well as offering sweet sounds of lapping water and cross breezes through all four bedrooms. The bedroom wing is separate from the living, dining room and kitchen spaces so that sleeping babies or adults can always have quiet. The kitchen was renovated in 2015 and features all new appliances including stove with double oven, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher, washer and dryer.
The cottage is fronted with a stone patio and boasts a veranda that runs the length of the living room and bedroom wing. The veranda is a wonderful place to watch a storm or seek shelter on a hot sunny day and acts as an extended living space.
The lawn area behind the cottage accommodates a mini game of soccer, badminton or volleyball, while the small dock, closest to the cottage sits in shallow water and is perfect for young swimmers. The large T-shaped dock directly on the point, is the perfect place to swim and sunbathe. This dock was originally used as a ‘steamer dock’, to drop off trunks and supplies to the current owner's ancestors who had taken the train to summer in the region. There is a forested hill behind the cottage and on either side, perfect for collecting and exploring, and wonderful views to boot.
The cottage has been in the owner's family for over 100 years! There are photographs and artifacts throughout the property connecting the current cottage to its history. Guests of the cottage always find it interesting to look through these artifacts and be part of this unique property’s long history. A number of years ago, Cottage Life magazine did a feature piece on ‘Century Cottagers’, and Elarton Point was featured in it.
With such warmth, natural beauty and caring attention to maintaining the authentic classic Muskoka experience, it will be hard to leave this slice of heaven once you have settled in!
