Talk about peace and tranquility and an abundance of fabulous places to tuck into on a property to embrace all of its serenity! Welcome to this lovely 2,500 sq. ft. 5 bedroom cottage nestled on an acre of well-treed land on pristine Six Mile Lake. “Somerset House” was one of the first cottages to be built on the lake, retaining its old country charm but with all the modern conveniences of home.
With the comfortable layout of older cottages, the kitchen is at the center with the bedrooms, dining room and living room surrounding it.
The living room has a beautiful vaulted cedar ceiling with two sets of patio doors leading to the deck and a multitude of large windows that give stunning views of the lake and grounds. Hardwood floors, antiques and comfortable furnishings, lend a feeling of coziness to this very special gathering room where you can play board games or watch TV. The dining room with its Burled Maple antique furniture, wonderful lake views and soft lighting, takes you back to an era of gracious dining. For outdoor dining there is an adjoining netted gazebo on the deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen, with granite counter tops, maple cupboards and pantry, is stocked with a large selection of small appliances, glasses and dishes for all occasions.
Four bedrooms are on the main level, two with forest views and two with lake views, one being the master bedroom with its own 3-piece bathroom ensuite and both lakeside bedrooms have a walk-out to the deck. The loft bedroom is closed in for privacy and has both tree top views of the lake and grounds and can be used as a playroom for the little ones or a place to sleep with a single day bed.
The screened-in Muskoka room, just off of the living room overlooking the lake, will provide hours of shaded enjoyment whether reading or relaxing or sharing happy hour beverages with friends and family after a long day of fun in the sun.
The beautifully manicured grounds gently slope down to a point with 250 feet of waterfrontage and two large docks. Sunbathe or just relax your day away on the main dock and for the more adventurous, to the right of the dock, there is a diving board off of a rock point, too fun!
Six Mile Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in Ontario with a lime stone base making the water feel like silk when you are swimming. It is landlocked and not part of the Trent Severn System so there are no large tourist sight-seeing boats on the lake and for avid anglers, fish are plentiful.
After a full day of water activity and sun, retreat to the cool shade of the Secret Garden for some quiet time, lovingly created by the owners for the enjoyment of kids of all ages. Time seems to stand still here as the fountain in the pond splashes over the stones and the frogs sunbathe on the rocks and Mother Nature is at her most beautiful.
This property and cottage are truly a slice of paradise to be experienced and treasured!
