Take a step back in time and settle into a truly authentic cottage experience in beautiful Haliburton County on Little Hawk Lake. The cottage is easily accessible by a quick 5 minutes boat ride from the marina. Nestled in the woods, far from the hustle and bustle of the city, you will quickly unwind and embrace your tranquil surroundings. With the property tucked into a private cove, you have all the benefits of a large lake but far less boat traffic.
The property was originally purchased and developed by an out-going female musician in the late 1940’s and was soon dubbed Harmony Heights (two photos taken in the 70’s can be seen at the end of the listing). Seldom a night would go by without music and laughter streaming out onto the lake as local cottagers gathered around her grand piano.
Although the piano no longer exists the cottage still resonates a warm sense of history with checkerboard wood flooring, living room cathedral ceiling, floor to ceiling wood-burning stone fireplace and comfortable furnishings. The 3 bedrooms are tastefully decorated with a Laura Ashley flare and the kitchen and dining room lend to that old fashion cottage style feel. The Muskoka room beckons for you to curl up and read a great novel while completely feeling like you are outdoors with its wrap-around windows overlooking the lake. Peaceful vistas can be had from all rooms, each offering something different and all beautiful for different reasons.
Stunning original stonework can be found around the property from the beautiful winding staircase that takes you from the dock to a mid-level patio and upward on to the main patio. All of it is granite that was excavated from behind the cottage back in the 40’s as well (quite the feat…all done with a rigged-up pulley system and one man!).
Head down to the dock where both sun and shade can be had. The lake is known for its crystal clear waters and the water at the end of the dock is 15 ft. deep, ideal for diving and swimming. Enjoy a sail or paddle on the lake and maybe even venture out to connecting Big Hawk Lake where you will find the only remaining man-made log chute in Ontario.
Complete your days by taking in breathe-taking sunsets from most anywhere on the property. As you sip on your favourite beverage and watch the sun peacefully drop below the horizon you may even hear hushed laughter and faint music from a far off grand piano!
