Spending summers in Algonquin/Muskoka as a child is something special and memorable that drives many of the same children to buy their own slice of heaven there when they become adults. Such was the case for the current owners of this fabulous 4-season property, whose family had been coming up to Oxtongue Lake for over 30 years!
Welcome to this stunning 2,080 sq. ft., 3 level, 4 bedroom cottage located on the peaceful shores of Oxtongue Lake. Newly built, the owners were set on a “log home” that would cater to a traditional cottage feel making it warm and cozy, mission accomplished! The interior of the cottage’s main and upper level, are open concept with the kitchen/dining/living room all facing out to the waterfront, with a wall of floor to ceiling windows providing soft ambient lighting and beautiful expansive views of the lake. The soaring pine cathedral ceiling creates a feeling of spaciousness and allows the upper level loft-like family room to take in tree top views out to the lake.
The kitchen is equipped with all the desired amenities of home, modern stainless steel appliances, a kitchen island with an undermount sink and there is plenty of Cambria counter space for prepping meals. Snack or dine inside at the island or harvest dining table or in the screened-in Muskoka room, just off of the kitchen/dining area, where you will feel one with nature even on inclement days.
The well thought out layout of the 3 levels is perfect for one or more families. Along with the main level’s open family gathering space, there is a bedroom and bathroom on this level and the upper level, along with the family room, has a bedroom and bathroom. The lower level will be the spot the tweens will want to retreat to as there are 2 bunk bedrooms and a spacious games room.
As lovely as the cottage is, the great outdoors will certainly be your playing ground while you are here!
Start your mornings off with breakfast on the large deck or head down with your coffee to the dock, just mere steps from the cottage, and take in the magic of the view that lays ahead of you. The 120 feet of waterfront is ideal for young and old alike as it is predominately a soft sand and pebble beach with a shallow entry. Head out onto the water for a paddle and explore the lake, especially early in the morning when the water is at its calmest. For avid anglers, the lake has an abundance of species, such as Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Northern Pike, Burbot and both Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass. The property is also alive with wildlife including many species of butterflies and birds, and of course friendly chipmunks who are always keen on a handful of peanuts.
For short day trips, the owners favourite attraction is the proximity to Algonquin Park (10 minutes to the West gate), allowing you to enjoy trails and escape to the wilderness on a regular basis. Another favourite thing to do is to canoe to the base of Ragged Falls and Oxtongue Narrows and it is a luxury having Algonquin Outfitters right on Oxtongue Lake, making it easy to spearhead your adventures or rent water toys without having to transport them with a vehicle.
Being a year-round cottage allows renters to rent not only in the high summer season but also in the three “other” seasons, that are equally amazing in Algonquin/Muskoka, with much to offer, and being at this cottage is the perfect location to take advantage of them all. Snowmobile trails are endless in the winter and nearby Arrowhead Provincial Park has ice skating and cross-country ski trails and even a tubing hill. “Fire and Ice” skating evenings here are a special experience. In the fall, people come from all around the world to take in the spectacular colour changing of the leaves, there is something truly breathtaking about this time of year in this magical region.
However you spend your days, no evening in cottage country is complete without a BBQ dinner back at the cottage and huddling around the fire pit after to roast marshmallows for desert while taking in the glorious sunsets as the sky fills with an abundance of stars…cottage life at its best!
