NEWLY LISTED - June 2019
In the heart of Hunstville, there lies a beautiful four-lake chain central to which is majestic Lake Vernon, boasting an abundance of wildlife, fish and significant areas of undeveloped shoreline. This is where our story begins, or, more correctly, began, many years ago.
This rustic and beautiful 4 bedroom, 1000sq. ft. cottage has been ‘in the family’ for generations, recently taken-over and lovingly renovated by the latest descendants to be charged with the care of this very important member of the family. Quaint and warm, roomy yet private, you’ll find a wonderful mix of old and new. Wooden beams, barnwood and newly dry-walled walls, hardwood floors, all anchored by a huge stone fireplace that separates the living room from the elevated dining and kitchen areas. The kitchen, in particular, has received much updating and is flooded with natural light from the large skylight above. The living room may be the focus though, for family chats and board games or for curling-up in a corner with that book you’ve been intending to read for a year now; perhaps under the light of one of the hand-made stained-glass lamps crafted by the people that first-built and loved this cottage. You’ll find warmth and beauty abounding here, everywhere you look.
The view of the lake is possibly best-enjoyed from the large dock, and while it is 80 (or so) steps down to the water’s edge, it takes that same number up to create the wonderful view of the surrounding area from the full-width deck fronting this cottage. Coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening, these are great places to bookend your day. Of course, at the dock you’ll find plenty of room for your boat or to use any of the watercraft provided, including 2 canoes, 2 kayaks, and a paddleboat.
Lake Vernon is a boating and water sports paradise, offering a great way to avoid traffic for the ‘commute’ into Huntsville and surrounding areas. Lake Vernon and its surrounding lakes offer expansive waterways for boat enthusiasts. With over 40 miles of boating, you have access to Peninsula Lake, Fairy Lake and through the lock system into Mary Lake. You can even boat into the historical town of Huntsville for a day of shopping, dining and best of all, ice cream!
While the property terrain is hilly and natural, you will find room on the rear grounds of the cottage for frisbee and bocce ball – or simply to start your walk down the country lanes immediately behind. There are also hiking trails and waterfalls a short driving distance from the cottage or take a longer day trip to explore the wilds of Algonquin Park, an easy drive slightly north on highway 11 and then east on highway 60.
Making a campfire down by the water could be on the agenda at day’s end, or if it’s drizzling, perhaps duck inside and watch TV (cable and Wi-Fi are included) – you’ll find comfort in any of these options for sure. When the day truly ends, the 4 bedrooms provide a great sleep in beautifully-appointed and restful surroundings.
Just like the generations of one family that built and have enjoyed this cottage, it may be time for you to start making your memories here too. It’s time to head north.
