A veritable definition of ‘cottage vacation’ awaits at this gorgeous and newly-renovated three-bedroom cottage situated on a beautiful point of land jutting-out into magnificent Manitouwabing Lake. The drive-in is easy by cottage standards and you are immediately greeted by nicely-kept and landscaped grounds and a very fresh and warm-looking two storey cottage that is welcoming, even before you start unpacking. You’ll know right away that you made a great selection, and that this will be a memorable time for you and your family.
Manitouwabing is a sprawling (3100 acres) many bayed lake on the north branch of the Seguin River. Fishing? Check; many species are abundant here, including bass, pickerel and northern pike. Swimming? Check; the beautiful clear waters are easily accessed from the dock. Boating? Check; there is a lot of lake just waiting for you to do some exploring via either the self-propelled variety (4 kayaks, 1 paddleboat and 1 rowboat are provided) or to partake in some watersports for those that have a powerboat to bring along for skiing, tubing or touring. If you do bring your own boat, you will appreciate the large and accommodating U-shaped dock; the dock is newly-built and inviting and will be the on-water focal point for the entire family for sure. There are options for boat launching, none easier than nearby Glenwood Marina – handy for those new to this lake, as you can just see it, down the lake, from the dock.
Exploring on land may include short walks or longer hikes, or trips into town (McKellar and Hurdville are the local hamlets; Parry Sound is just a 20-minute drive). If you run out of provisions, these provide handy refills.
If you do have to go inside, you will be greeted by a modern kitchen (including dishwasher – thank you) and all newer appliances, ceramic tile flooring and custom cabinetry. The living room is nicely finished with a warm and cozy combination of barnwood, drywall, wood floors and a brick fireplace with an air-tight insert (please bring your own dry, hard, firewood if you enjoy taking the chill off of the evening). The dining area has a nice rustic décor with a large table and chairs suitable for the six of you. We’ve heard that this doubles as a great place for games.
On the main floor and upstairs, you’ll find the bedrooms which are all immaculately kept and furnished with a great night’s sleep as paramount to their design. Electric baseboard heating allows for everyone to select their own level of added warmth, if needed.
Getting back to nature, er, outside, there is a very large wrap-around deck that gives you options: the wonderful view of the property and the lake from the front, or the shelter of the screened-in Muskoka room to the side; on both you will find plenty of seating and card-playing or cocktail-sipping options. The Muskoka room also boasts a propane fire-bowl for ambiance (no marshmallows here though, please).
Access to the lake is slightly steep (of course, that provides for the great view) but the walk-down is easy thanks to great landscaping: a combination of granite stone and wooden steps and a well-marked path. Part-way down, there is a stone patio replete with Muskoka chairs and a firepit (this is the ‘smores spot). Some wood is provided for this area, as softwoods are abundant and provide for a nice, crackling fire. A few more steps and you’re at the lake and on the dock.
Welcome to your vacation!
