"REFLECTION BAY LOG COTTAGE"
Take a step back in time to the simpler joys of cottage living and settle into this cozy log cabin and lakeside bunkie, located on tranquil Horseshoe Lake in the Haliburton Highlands. This well maintained 2 bedroom cottage is situated on an acre of land with over 100 feet of rare sandy beach waterfront.
The original cottage was built by the owner’s grandfather in the late 1930’s, and in his own words, has sheltered and nurtured 4 generations, providing welcomed refuge from the chaos and stress of life in the city! As the children grew into adults, they themselves built the bunkie down by the lakeside enabling the family to grow and provide more room for all. The bunkie is located just feet from the waterfront with French doors leading out to a screened in porch overlooking the lake.
The interior of the main cottage, with its log walls, wood floors, pine cathedral ceilings and wood stove in the open concept living/dining area, create a warm and inviting environment for family gatherings. The 2 bedrooms are tucked into the back of the cottage lending to a great night’s sleep and the sunroom along the front of the cottage is the ideal place to read or catch a nap on inclement days while still enjoying beautiful lake views.
Needless to say, the sandy beach waterfront is where the family will spend most of their outdoor hours and with a canoe and kayak at your disposal; head out onto the lake for hours of paddling and exploring. There is a swamp at the far east end of the lake, excellent for fishing and canoeing through. There is a great blue heron that travels from the large swamp to the small swamp and sometimes you can catch him with a fish in his beak, or taking a break on an unoccupied dock. Keep your eye out for the 3 pairs of loons that move in for the spring, summer and fall months, often fishing just off the point next to the cottage, getting quite close to shore, perfect for a photo opportunity.
For day trips, visit the Wolf Centre in the Haliburton Forest (about 20 minutes away), or watch the kayakers attack the white water rapids at Minden Wild Water Preserve, or indulge in the best ice cream ever at Kawartha Dairy on Highway 35 in Minden.
End your evenings back at the cottage and take in the gorgeous sunsets and recap and share your days adventures around the lakeside fire pit, so, what are you waiting for?!
